Prevention Through Production

Human trafficking is the recruitment and movement of people by deception or force, for the purpose of exploitation.

Over 71% of peoples trafficked globally are women and girls. 

Half of the world's slaves live in India. 

The state of West Bengal has the highest number of human trafficking cases in India. 

In the past decade, there have been over 500,000 reported cases of women and girls who have been trafficked in West Bengal. 

In 2018, our founder Fritha Vincent was awarded the prestigious Prix Clarins Stylist Award in recognition of her mission to prevent vulnerable young women in West Bengal from being trafficked. 

With this prize money, Secret Projects has been able to incorporate a new sewing unit focusing specifically on the production of Secret Sari Dresses. 

The key to the Secret Sari Dress is PREVENTION, as its production provides women and girls with access to an income generating activity in an area where there are little or no such opportunities. 

We know that when women earn 2,000 rupees per month (approximately £20 or $25), it can prevent them from being trafficked. 

The young women from Molly's Sewing Unit have been given a life-changing opportunity to earn a decent living and provide for themselves and their families.
