The World's Most Empowering Shopping Bag

In February 2019, 143 backers pledged £5,088 to support our Own the Most Empowering Shopping Bag in the World Campaign. With this fund, we have been able to train five of our Maker Groups to make our Secret Shopping Bag: a reusable cloth shopping bag. This project has focused on our Maker Groups in the southern states of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.

Now that our Makers have successfully produced a batch of 400 Secret Shopping Bags, we will be carrying out workshops on local sales. With the recent banning of plastic bags in India, reusable shopping bags are the perfect product for our Makers to make and sell locally. For our Makers, making and selling locally means independence: the fourth stage of our Training for Empowerment Programme.

A special thank you to Lissy, our wonderful Quality Controller, who has carried out training sessions both near and far, led communication with our Makers throughout the production process and quality checked all the bags before being sent out to our customers all over the world.
