Welcome to Secret Projects, a UK registered social enterprise, creating work for women in India

Kantha Scarves

Kantha (or Kanta) is a type of embroidery craft originating from the eastern regions of the Indian subcontinent, specifically in the Indian states of West Bengal, Tripura and Odisha, as well as in Bangladesh. Kantha embroidery involves running stitches across the whole fabric to create a lovely texture.

We have sourced the scarves for this collection from Freeset, a social business based in West Bengal focused on creating positive employment opportunities for women affected by sex trafficking. The scarves are all handwoven at the Freeset facilities, with the kantha embroidery being stitched by Momataaj's Maker Group, one of our Maker Groups also located in West Bengal.
